MESSAGE FROM GERALD WOLFE

HOMEWORK FOR 1/9:

Read the Haydn Latin text in rhythm faster than our tempo. Read the Handel English texts with expression. Rehearse any trouble spots you may still have.

MESSAGE FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT

Hello Everyone, and Happy New Year!

I am home from Spain, hoping that rehearsal on Jan 2nd went well, and (gasp!) looking forward to next week, concert week. Thanks, Diana, for taking over such an important rehearsal!

Some quick reminders:

Dress Rehearsals*:

WHERE: In the Sanctuary at St. Paul's Methodist Church

Wednesday January 9

TIME: Chamber singers: 6:00 pm** - 10:00 pm
Chorus: 6:45 pm** - 10:00 pm

Friday January 11

TIME: Chamber singers: 6:00 pm** - 10:00 pm
Chorus: 6:45 pm** - 10:00 pm

* You must attend all of these rehearsals in order to sing in the concert, unless you have permission from Gerald.

**It's very important that we show up and are on stage, ready to sing at these times, so plan on arriving a bit early. Chamber Singers will be rehearsing before chorus, and orchestra members and soloists arriving. Please assemble quietly in the Sanctuary. It's very important to be quiet and not whisper during rehearsal, so nobody has to yell to get our attention. Please, please, let's not make Mike Billing bellow at us in front of the orchestra and soloists.

Please do not wear perfume or after-shave as these may cause allergic reactions in some people. Also, be prepared to be in close proximity under the stage lights--it gets very warm. Please change into dry, supportive shoes/sneakers for standing during rehearsal and to avoid tracking in slush. Heel height should be the same as in the shoes you'll be wearing at the concert.

Please – no food or beverages other than water in Sanctuary. You may bring water in a securely covered cup.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING STOOLS (LABELED WITH YOUR NAME) FOR THE DRESS REHEARSAL.

Concert:

WHERE: In the Sanctuary at St. Paul's Methodist Church

Saturday January 12

TIME: Chamber singers: 6:00 pm
Chorus: 6:45 pm

Dress: All black!
Women: long-sleeved, plain black blouse or top; long black skirt, or mid-calf skirt with black stockings, or long black dress or dress pants; black shoes. Minimal jewelry. Please, no black jeans, sneakers or thick sweaters.
Men: long-sleeved, plain black dress shirt or poloneck; black dress pants; black socks; black shoes. Please, no jackets, ties, black jeans, black sneakers, or sweaters.
Remember that if you are wearing heels, those who stand behind you may no longer be able to see.

Make sure you have a BLACK FOLDER for your music.

Absences: If you become ill or can’t attend, notify your section leader, Mike Billing (mikebilling@gmail.com, 272-9208), or Stephanie Meyer (bellamayophoto@hotmail.com).

Tickets: Sell sell sell! You have until Friday to sell your tickets and get the money and/ or unsold tickets to Sunny Gooding. In the past, people have not sold their tickets and paid for them anyway--please don't do this, as it can mess up ticket sale counts and prevent entry for some in case of a sold-out performance. If you do choose to do so, clearly mark that you didn't sell and that it is a donation. If you need to leave tickets at the door, place them in a small clearly marked envelope, and give them to Sunny Gooding.

Posters: Get those posters out! Be creative -- put them on a window in your car, or bring them to your favorite coffee shop, insurance agent, wherever. A copy of the poster is attached. Please feel free to print and post it!

Post Concert Party:

Barbara Friedman has agreed to throw the post-concert party. This coming week, we will have directions to her house. Please bring a donation (food or drink). We are big group to host. Thank you Barbara!

Concert CDs:

Joyce Morganroth has agreed to handle the ordering of concert CDs. Order forms will be available during concert week, and will also be posted online at the website next week.

Spring Registration:

Registration forms for Spring will be available online before the end of the weekend. They are not up yet! The ones that are currently up are for this season. There has been some confusion, and I apologize. I am still waiting on one item, so everything can be posted at once.

Well,
I think I got everything, but if there is more, I'll let you know. Be well everyone--no screaming or hollering this week, and stay healthy, and practice your problem spots! See you Wed, Steph

MESSAGE FROM THE CONCERT MASTER

Concert Manager: Mike Billing mikebilling@gmail.com 272-9208

Concert Set-up: Concert set-up is on Tuesday, January 8 at 8 PM. Help will be needed to set up the Sanctuary at St. Paul's with extra chairs, music stands etc.

Ushers: Ask a friend or spouse to usher - free admission. Give names to Mike. Ushers should arrive by 7:05 PM on Saturday.

A NOTE OF THANKS TO THE WRAPPERS

Thanks to everyone who helped wrap books at Borders, especially Annie Wall for coordinating the effort. The wrappers earned more than $300 to benefit the choruses!

MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY CHORUSES HOST BED & BREAKFAST AS FUND-RAISER

Consider hosting family members and friends of graduating students during the Cornell’s Commencement weekend (May 24-25, 2008). The hosts provide beds and simple breakfasts. The visiting families pay an established fee per night directly to ICC. The funds raised significantly contribute to supporting the Ithaca Community Choruses’ activities.

Choose to host couples or singles – whatever suits your particular circumstances. Having guests stay for 2-3 nights with breakfast each morning benefits programs of the Choruses.

Cornell’s graduation information booklet and the internet inform families of the B&B programs offered by the Choruses and other not-for-profit groups.

Families have started calling for accommodations, so if you have questions or are interested in hosting for 2008, please be in touch with me. Many thanks.
