What is the Ithaca Gay Mens Chorus (IGMC)?

The Ithaca Gay Mens Chorus began in the spring of 2009 with a group of steadfast and eager men wanting to make a difference. The vision that emerged was one that fosters an embracing environment for all men who seek to perform vocal music set for the male voice. Incorporated in the Ithaca Community Choruses, the IGMC emphasizes community and communal ownership. With three conductors and a creative steering committee we wish to establish a community where all ideas can be shared and decisions are collectively created and implemented. The mission of the IGMC is to unite, educate, and inspire its audiences and members through high-quality choral experiences set for the male voice. The vision of the Ithaca Gay Men's Chorus is one that strives to make a better world where 1) all people are given the opportunity to develop a greater compassion for each other and where differences are celebrated; 2) all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, have equal access to the arts and the freedom to express their diverse cultural identity; and 3) choral music is appreciated and embraced as being vital to cultural and spiritual health.

Where We Perform

The IGMC's main home is the Baptist Church located at 309 North Cayuga Street. Our main fall and spring concerts are held there. Other performances take place at local schools, senior homes, private gatherings, and community sponsored events. Currently, the IGMC has about 18 members. All men are welcome to join. There are no auditions and you do not have to know how to read music.
